The Journey

While on vacation visiting my family in the beautiful Pacific Northwest I came across a Yahoo news article about a family who challenged themselves to eating real food for 100 days. There was a link in the article to this family's blog where a Mother shares her journey through 100 days of eating real food. It is a pretty extensive blog with great recipes and great info. She has taken their 100 days to a whole new level.

When I showed my sisters this blog we, all, collectively decided that we would try this and use each other for moral support through our journey. We are starting on Tuesday September 6 ~ the day after Labor Day. We are starting with a 10 day challenge and we will reevaluate from there. This pledge is great, you can register and make it official. I think when things are official we are more likely to stick with them. The rules are very straight forward...in summary, if it doesn't come straight from the earth or an animal don't eat it!

I will admit, as much as my sisters are on board with this little journey, my husband is not. He wants to know what the carrot at the end is? He is healthy for the most part, he does not have high blood pressure or cholesterol issues, he runs about 20-25 miles per week, he is not over weight and he loves Diet Mt. Dew. So why is he doing this? I am also in good health. My blood pressure is great, I just had a full blood panel done and all is well, I do have a few pounds to lose, but really, who doesn't? I want to do this for the long term overall health of my family. I have been doing a lot of research about the things we put into our body and how they are affecting us. It seems that many of the diseases American's struggle with now days are linked to our diet and many of these same diseases can be controlled with a change of diet. I, personally, have struggled with infertility. Not Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), but explained infertility. In my research I have found that often times general infertility can be controlled through diet. This is my carrot...the hopes to bring another sweet baby into this world. I'm taking my husband along for the ride because it's hard to do it alone.

We are taking this journey together as a family and as sisters so if you would like to come along for the ride, join us! We can support one another and be each others cheerleaders when all we really want is a Whopper~

Yahoo! We did the 10 day challenge and extended it to 2 weeks. Just like the family who started this, we allowed ourselves one "treat" or cheat (they had coffee or wine I think): dark chocolate. So maybe your hubby can designate Mt. Dew as his?

Good luck with this! We liked the challenge and while we are pretty healthy it REALLY opened my eyes to how much I love bread (A LOT of breads have more than 5 ingredients...) and how much refined sugar I eat. SO MUCH.

Can't wait to keep reading about your journey!
